The brief

The homeowner wanted to reduce their reliance on grid electricity and make better use of the energy available from their roof. With electricity costs remaining high, the aim was to install a system that could generate clean energy during the day, store surplus generation and make it available later when household demand increased.

The proposed solution

Following a survey of the property and an assessment of the customer’s electricity usage, we designed a 6.51kWp solar PV system using 14 high-efficiency 465W Perlight panels.

The solar array was combined with a 10kWh Ecoflow battery, allowing surplus solar generation to be stored rather than immediately exported to the grid. The battery can then supply the property during the evening and other periods when solar generation is low.

The system can also take advantage of suitable off-peak electricity tariffs, allowing the battery to be charged from the grid when electricity is cheaper.

The outcome

The completed system gives the homeowner significantly greater control over how and when they use electricity. Solar generation now supplies the property throughout the day, while excess energy can be stored in the 10kWh battery for use later. By combining solar generation with battery storage and smart tariff charging, the customer can reduce the amount of electricity purchased at peak rates while increasing their use of renewable energy generated at home. The system has also been designed with future energy requirements in mind, providing a flexible platform should the household's electricity consumption increase.
