The brief
The homeowner at Bromsgrove Road, Romsley wanted to tackle continuously rising energy bills while reducing reliance on the grid. They were looking for a renewable energy solution that would deliver strong long-term savings, lower their household carbon footprint, and offer reliable backup power — all without compromising on the appearance of their home. A seamless, aesthetically integrated system was a key priority alongside performance and reliability.
The proposed solution
GE Solutions UK designed a premium in-roof solar and battery system combining high-efficiency Perlight panels with FoxESS hybrid technology and a fully integrated GSE in-roof system:
- Solar Design: 26 x Perlight 455W N-Type double glass panels (11.83 kW total) installed via the GSE in-roof system for a sleek, seamless finish, backed by a 30-year product and performance warranty.
- Battery Storage: A 20.74 kWh FoxESS ECS4300H-H5 battery stores surplus solar energy for use in the evenings, overnight, or during peak demand, backed by a 12-year warranty.
- Inverter & Monitoring: A 10.5 kW FoxESS KH10.5 hybrid inverter manages power flow between panels, battery, and home appliances, with smartphone-based remote monitoring, real-time analytics, EPS/backup capability, and an IP65 outdoor rating.
The installation also included full roof re-covering via GSE integration, MCS and HIES certification, G99 network approval, an EPS transfer switch for backup power, plus scaffolding and waste removal for a clean, hassle-free install.
The outcome
The system now generates approximately 9,288 kWh annually and delivers up to 40% grid independence. Financially, it's projected to save £1,554 a year on energy bills, with lifetime savings of £78,807 and net savings of £51,420 after installation costs — a 188% return on investment over a 15-year payback period. Environmentally, it offsets 1.2 tonnes of CO₂ annually, equivalent to planting 453 trees, avoiding 44,000+ car miles, or 24 long-haul flights.
